Healthy Tips for a Happier Christmas!

At GourmetFuel, we like to promote a healthy well-balanced lifestyle, meaning you can enjoy those tasty treats when the time comes!
When it comes to the Holidays, sometimes we can consume more calories, processed foods, refined sugars and alcohol than we even realise. While we are all for enjoying the treats and sharing some snacks and meals with those around us, it may be wise to consider the following tips to help reduce the overindulgence and guilt after the Christmas Period.
Prepare in advance
To avoid any last-minute purchases, it is important to prepare your food and drink and have an idea in mind as to the kind of meals and snacks you want to provide. If you are not the one preparing or cooking the meals provided, why not bring your own snack/drink alternatives, or liaise with the host to have a more balanced menu.
Choose healthier alternatives
While we do love our white bread sandwiches and sugary treats at Christmas, there is always a better way to present and prepare drinks/food without compromising on flavour. Some examples include:
- Choose wholemeal options like brown bread and wholemeal pasta when cooking, they are a good source of fibre, important for a healthy gut and will keep you fuller for longer.
- Replace the added salt with herbs and spices to liven up your meals
- Choose healthier cooking methods such as steaming and baking
Be Mindful
Sometimes we can get carried away and not realise what we have consumed. It is always a good idea to be mindful and notice what you are eating or drinking each day.
Eat slowly and really enjoy the taste of your food. Listen to your body and stop eating when you feel full.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration, as this can leave you feeling tired and with poor concentration following mealtimes.
Try something new
We love our traditions, and some are non-negotiable, however, it may be an idea to consider more modern trends when preparing or purchasing your meals. For example, consider less meat options and some plant-based alternatives. You can get creative and create dishes that resemble traditional meals but with healthier ingredients.
