How to Overcome Weekend Indulging
Everyday life can be stressful. From our jobs to our long commutes. So, coming home on a Friday, dumping our stuff, and demolishing some fast food and booze can be our way of unwinding.
Your Weekend Calorie Consumption
But, Friday becomes a gateway drug to a weekend of overindulging. Firstly, we eat a big fry on the Saturday before going to the gym, and a big lunch afterwards. We go out on Saturday nights for drinks and a heavy meal. Or stay home for more takeout and movies on the sofa. Then comes Sunday brunch, of course. And picking up some of those amazing pastries at that little coffee shop on our Sunday walk. And, naturally, the grand finale… a big Sunday roast… because it’s Sunday.
In short, we all get caught in this endless cycle of sticking to our program during the week, indulging all weekend, and then “resetting” again on Monday. However, how does doing this on repeat affect your progress, and how can you break the cycle? Here is How to Overcome Weekend Indulging.
How to Overcome Weekend Indulging: 5 Ways to Break Your Bad Habits
- Never aim for the ‘Perfect Diet’. It’s virtually impossible. We all mess up from time to time and let’s be realistic, who is perfect 100% of the time? So, ‘good enough’ should be the goal.
- Listen to your body – if you’re hungry… eat; if you aren’t hungry… don’t. If you overeat one night that’s no problem, wake up the next morning and try again… don’t lose the run of yourself.
- Ditch the cheat day routine and eat what you want in moderation. For example, maybe it’s a small piece of dessert after dinner or a sweet treat to get you through that 4pm slump with a coffee… even if it is a Tuesday!
- Know your triggers. Do you have a particular friend group that’s all about weekend drinking and late-night eats? When you’re overtired and feeling lousy, do you order food to be delivered? Rather than trying to muster all your willpower to avoid overeating in these situations, try avoiding the trigger completely so the temptation no longer exists.
- Instead of your usual takeaway, order a couple of our Fakeaway Meals in time for the weekend. Maybe your takeaway of choice is Indian, so have a Chicken Korma with White & Wild Rice. If that late-night chipper is for you, then why not have a Turkey Chilli Taco Fries.
